MEET CHARLOTTE

Charlotte Vaughn Raines is a native New Yorker. She was raised by parents who make their living in the performing arts, so she always had the bug. Dancing since the age of five and singing before she could talk, Charlotte thought for a long time that her future was going to be musical theater. In high school she discovered straight theater and Shakespeare which fueled her desire to be involved with all forms of theater.  As an undergraduate in The University of Michigan's B.F.A. Acting program, Charlotte focused on her acting technique while continuing to take advanced dance classes and voice lessons. As a member of a stage combat troupe throughout college, she became adept at roles that require strong physicality.

After moving back to NYC following graduation (with honors), Charlotte continued her Acting Training at the William Esper Acting Studio's two year intensive program. Since finishing the program Charlotte played major principal roles in the NY Indie Theater scene, performed in musicals regionally, and became a member of a modern dance company. After a string of successful shows, Charlotte relocated to Washington D.C. to focus on Shakespeare and received her M.F.A. in classical acting from the Academy For Classical Acting at George Washington University. Following graduation, she  had her Edinburgh Fringe Festival debut and her professional DC debut right before the pandemic.

During the Pandemic Charlotte returned to NYC and participated in lots of virtual theater. She is now officially based back in NYC and has returned to the stage and screen.

Charlotte has a strong comedic acting side, as well as a contemporary, edgy vibe. She has a commanding stage presence, but is not afraid to be vulnerable when a role requires it. As a singer, she has a strong belt, and Her singing style ranges easily from rock musicals to standards. As a dancer, she specializes in Fosse style and modern dance with a strong ballet foundation. Her favorite weapon in stage combat is the Broadsword, but she is also very experienced in single rapier, rapier/dagger, and hand to hand combat.
